Marshwood Vale Young Farmers scooped first prize at the fencing challenge at the recent meeting of the Dorset Young Farmers. With Beaminster A in second place and Beaminster B team a close run third
They proved their prowess at the Dorset Young Farmers at their annual rally at the Dorset Show Ground.
There were many events on the day, but the highlight was the hotly competed 'fencing challenge'. With two and a half hours to erect a 15–metre run of robust stock fencing, using HAMPTON NET™ stock fencing three teams had their work cut out to impress well–known local fencing contractor, Nick Green.
Mr Green said he was very pleased with the quality of workmanship the Beaminster team managed to achieve under significant time pressure.
The fencing competition was sponsored by DORSET FENCING SUPPLIES, Local stockist of Hampton Steel wire and associated products.
It wasn't all serious stuff and the young farmers had fun too, including a competition to see how many young farmers could fit into a calf hutch – an event which had to be seen to be believed.
Local residents and those from further afield joined the farmers to watch the proceedings and a visitor commented: "It is very reassuring to see that the region's future farmers are not only competent and enthusiastic about agriculture, but also that they clearly know how to enjoy themselves."
